Bugbot usage-based billing

On May 11th, we announced that Bugbot is moving from per-seat billing to usage-based billing for Teams and Individual plans. The average Bugbot run costs between $1.00 and $1.50, depending on PR size and complexity.

When does Bugbot usage-based billing take effect?

For new customers, Bugbot usage-based billing is available immediately.

For existing customers, the change applies at your next billing renewal after June 8th, 2026. Your current Bugbot billing stays the same until then.

Examples of when the change applies:

  • If your monthly billing cycle starts on May 1st, 2026, the new billing model does not apply on June 1st. It applies to the cycle that starts on July 1st.
  • If you purchased an annual subscription in May 2026, usage-based billing applies at your renewal in May 2027.

How does Bugbot usage-based billing work for Teams?

For Teams, Bugbot reviews are charged from on-demand usage. You can turn on on-demand usage from your Cursor dashboard.

How does Bugbot usage-based billing work for Individual plans?

For Individual plans, Bugbot bills first from included usage. Once your included usage is consumed, Bugbot bills from on-demand usage if you've enabled it.

If on-demand usage is disabled, Bugbot pauses until your next billing cycle, when limits reset. You can turn on on-demand usage from your Cursor dashboard.

What are Bugbot effort levels?

Alongside usage-based billing, Bugbot supports configurable effort levels for reviews:

  • Default: Bugbot continues to use the same effort level as it does today. Optimized for efficiency and speed.
  • High: Bugbot spends more time reasoning. Reviews are more expensive and take longer, but Bugbot may find more bugs.
  • Custom: Describe in natural language when Bugbot should use default or high effort. Cursor will dynamically set effort levels based on your instructions.

You can configure effort levels from Settings in the Bugbot dashboard.

How to switch to usage-based Bugbot early

Existing customers can switch to usage-based Bugbot in their Cursor dashboard.

If you switch early, Cursor will apply pro-rated credits for any pre-paid seat fees to your account.
